We are a neighbors and parents and educators who live near Wallingford Park. We use the park regularly.
We are parents of students at Hamilton International Middle School. We are parents of athletes at Lincoln High, and those who have graduated. Some of us have young children who play at the park — in the playground, in the grass, and under the trees.
We want our children, our elders, and ourselves to have access to greenspace and open play areas.
We support the schools. We support school athletics.
But we firmly believe that the park should remain a community asset, and not be primarily devoted to the schools. It belongs to everyone.
As Seattle gets more and more dense, many people – some of us – have no back yard. We depend on parks for our greenspace –to let our children run and play, to eat lunch, to watch the sunset. As the city gets tighter for space, open greenspace is harder to come by. Trees and grass are a treasure for our neighborhood. Canopy, bushes, and greenspace contributes to community mental health, family cohesion, ecological sustainability, and temperature regulation.
Wallingford Park has been this community’s backyard and gathering place for decades. Let’s keep this precious resource for everyone.

How are you funded?
Aside from our attorney, the months of labor — website, newsletter, analysis, research, public outreach, emails, and organizational work — is all done by volunteers. We all volunteer our time and expertise.
